The screechy PA system has just announced that your flight to that golden topical paradise is officially on hold. The snow is thick, the fog is beastly, and you my friend are planted in place for an unforeseen amount of time. Once you’ve burned through your apps and caught up on every celebrity magazine in the terminal, it’s time to get creative. Here are the top games to play when you’re stuck at the airport.

1. I Spy

What? You surprised to see this on the list? We’re willing to bet you haven’t played this game in years and it’s time to dust off those old observation skills. Simply lasso a partner, pick something you see, and then give clues until your partner figures out what you’re looking at. It’s a simple game but it kills time like no either.

2. Scavenger Hunt

If you have a partner stuck with you and you’ve exhausted all other means of entertainment, play a scavenger hunt. Create a list of random ideas—like orange beanies, rainbow sprinkles, and glue sticks, and then set off in opposite directions to see who can find as many of these items as possible. Use your camera to snap evidence of your findings. No sense buying these things, and you KNOW airports aren’t about freebies.

As “Sex and the City” idols Carrie Bradshaw and Stanford once said, “We all judge. It’s our hobby. Some people do arts and crafts. We judge.” You already suspect that the lady and man across from you are having a work affair, and you know that little kid is up to no good, and you’re positive that one solo hippie is most definitely an undercover government agent. Write a few of your observations and create your characters as you see fit. Just try to be stealth about it.

4. What Would I Buy?

Most airports have a variety of art pieces around their terminals. Whether you’re with a group or by yourself, walk through the entire airport and check out the variety of creative works. Then pick out which one you’d buy if you were a secret heiress. If you can’t fly to your dream vacation, you can still daydream and pass the time.

5. Airport Cuisine

Depending on where you’re stuck, you might have a wealth of cheap foods awaiting your grouchy palate. Instead of rushing off to get a quick bite before your flight, you have all the time in the world to make the ideal meal of your choice. You know those fries are better at X than Y, and who says you can’t have a frozen yogurt to go with your cinnamon bun? You have nowhere else to be, and plenty of airport to walk around in circles to burn off calories.

6. Drink

Body - martini

When all else fails, there are bars in airports for a reason. Oh, you need a game to play while you drink? Er, how about ordering the most exotic thing on the menu. You might not be going anywhere exotic for a while yet, but at least you can pretend with a nice, sweet buzz.
