Your shot glass collection is, shall we say, robust enough as it is. And cheesy souvenir T-shirts are so 90s, though your Aunt Barb may disagree (she’s holding onto that “I Heart NY” tee like it’s the Shroud of Turin). Good news, savvy traveler, there are plenty of fun ways to fill your suitcase as you travel the world. Sure, some weird items may have Stateside customs agents raising an eyebrow, but let them raise away. That’s just your new keychain made from a kangaroo’s private parts, keep it moving folks. Here are five weird things to buy on your next trip, from Down Under to Japan.

1. Kangaroo Scrotums

Do not adjust your monitor. This is exactly what you think it is. The folks in Oz have decided that a good old fashioned rabbit’s foot just isn’t the luckiest fur-covered accessory on the market. So when you land in Australia after that 14-hour flight and you’re riding a jet-lagged, sleep-deprived high that can only be described as a state of epic mania – go ahead and give in to the urge to immediately buy weird stuff. Look for an authentic kangaroo scrotum in the airport gift shop. These bad boys come in two forms: a soft leathery coin pouch and a furry souvenir that looks more like… well, the thing that it actually is. The latter is often topped with a bottle opener or a keychain. Look, ma, it’s as functional as it is lucky!

2. Hizamakura Pillow

What do you get the man who has everything? Tis a mystery. What do you get the man who has nothing? The hizamakura pillow, aka “lap pillow.”  This item is perfect for the lonely mouth-breather in your life who just can’t seem to score a special lady friend. Shaped like a feminine lap, the hizamakura pillow is popular in Japan and unpopular among women who have accidentally stumbled upon it in a Google search.

3. Square Watermelon

Don’t you hate it when you try to stack your watermelons and they just won’t stay in place? (Ed. note: to be read in an infomercial voice). Well, Japan has heard your outcry and answered the way only Japan can: They started creating square watermelons. The next time you’re on vacation in Tokyo and you want to store your produce as efficiently as possible, just pick up a few of these at the market.

4. Live Turtle Keychains

Not to be outdone by its neighbor to the east, China has its own inventory of weird stuff to buy. Take, for instance, the live turtle keychain. Sure, these turtles might be better off in an aquarium or their natural habitat. But this way they get to enjoy your company 24/7! Maybe just buy one to release the bugger back into the river. Your call.

5. Swedish Troll Dolls

You know what they say, “You can’t go to Sweden without running into like 1 million trolls.” Alright, so no one says that. But they should. Because you can’t go to Sweden without running across a mad amount of trolls. In traditional Swedish folklore, trolls are often depicted as being hairy and stupid, and no friend of mankind. Yet you can still find trolls as statues in front of stores, on display in public squares, and on gift shop shelves. If you’re looking for weird presents to bring home to the fam, you won’t have to look very far.

What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever bought on vacation? (Pics or it didn’t happen).
